Wow From Around the Net: Mandalorian Geeks

The Make-A-Wish foundation is aiming their latest fundraising campaign at the geeks of the world. Currently on the internet auction house widely known as E-Bay has a specific shop up that is operated by the Make-A-Wish foundation. In this shop you can find a large number of items that are Star-Wars based.

A particular series of items perked my interest a series of geek mash-up based around the number one known mandalorian. The space bad-ass bounty hunter who encases his enemies in carbonite’s helmet has been re-imagined and combined to fit into other Geekdoms. A group of artists have come together and used the Iconic Boba Fett helmet as a base and merged it into the other major science fiction franchises.

Check it out here: Make-A-Wish

Take a look at these master pieces

I wish I had the money to purchase these bad boys but alas I don’t.

A Tablespoon of Geek: Mexican Vegerarian Pasta Salad

Well I am a day late on my cooking segment and I apologize for that it was because I was sick yesterday. Trust me I tried to type up a post yesterday but I was so tired from illness and the words did not seem to flow in a way that I liked. I may have gotten three paragraphs poorly written before I finally threw in the towel and took a nap to try an feel better.

OK so last week was the last “Cooking Concoctions” post ever and the polls officially closed yesterday for voting on the new name. It seems it was a very close race but in the end it looks like “A Spoonful of Geek” came out on top. It is now time for us to say farewell to the “Cooking Concoctions” it had a good run but it is time for it punch it’s last time card and graciously retire.

So this week is my Mexican Vegetarian Pasta Salad

For this recipe you will need for serving four
1 pound or 4 cups of pasta (I used Conchiglie a.k.a. shells)
2 cups of corn
1 Red pepper Chopped
¾ cup of green onions diced
½ can of black beans drained
1 cup of mozzarella
1 cup of cheddar
1 cup of ranch dressing
Taco seasoning (or Mexican seasonings of your choice)

Step one is to bring a large pot of water to a boil and then cook the pasta. To be honest aside from the chopping and cutting this is the most challenging part of the whole process. Once the pasta is cooked to your liking and the pot is drained, re add the pasta to the pot and pour in cold water.  Drain the pasta and place in a large serving bowl.

Now mix in the vegetables and beans until it is well mixed together, than mix in the ranch dressing and the spices and seasonings. If you wash your hands you can have fun mixing all of this together with your bare hands, let your inner kid get a little messy. Once this is thoroughly mixed together add in the cheeses and you are ready to serve.

I initially wanted to use Wagon wheels for this recipe but I could not find any at the store and it made me disappointed. I really felt that the Wagon wheel past would give this Mexican Pasta Salad a real western feel, maybe one day if I can find the wheel pasta I will redo this recipe.

Omg look at this it appears that a certain powerful master jedi joined us for this delightful meal. One Mr Yoda decided that he would like to partake in my delightful pasta dish. I hope that he enjoyed my cooking but he didn't say a whole lot about it, that might be because he is a toy but who can be sure about it

Well this is the first post of the new cooking section of my blog A Tablespoon of Geek, give this a try.

Gaming on the Go: Where's My Perry

I use to be a hardcore gamer and I have always enjoyed playing puzzle style games because no matter how frustrating a puzzle is when I finally get it I feel a sense of accomplishment. We live in a time where short puzzle based games are readily available because of the existence of smart phones. Before the phone became a gaming console there weren’t a whole lot of puzzle games aside from Tetris in the market place.

The first game to really make the phone gaming market take off was of course the world’s number one played game Angry Birds. This game becoming so wildly popular made gaming developers sit up and realize there is money to be made in an un-tapped market. Now almost every major game developer has some sort of game available in the App store for a very low price. Every gaming developer has ther fingers in the proverbial pie including the infamously evil Disney Corporation.

I find that children’s cartoons have taken a serious nose dive in the awesome department since I was a kid. Maybe that feeling is nostalgia fueled or maybe it is because I always preferred action based cartoons over silly ones but since Sponge-Bob Squarepants hit the scene it seems like all the kids cartoons are trying to outdo each other for ridiculous. The shows are almost painful to watch they are so mindless, but every once and a while there is a jewel that shines through and is actually funny. That new diamond in the rough is a show a show about two step brothers who are geniuses and their pet platypus who is a secret agent, the show is called "Phineas and Ferb".

The Perry the platypus is by far the best part of that show in my opinion he is constantly running around in the background of the brothers’ adventures while he is on a separate mission. Now I am going to bring my point together and tell you that Disney has released a iPhone puzzle game called “Where’s my Perry?” revolving about the secret agent platypus.

I thoroughly enjoyed this game and beat it in two days while logging a total of 6 hours but still totally worth the 99 cents I paid for it. Check it out seriously

Fitness and Me: I am RUNNING!!!

I think that I can now officially say that I have actively stuck to my new year’s resolution this year, which is a first for me. I had some specific goals that fell to the way side however due to time and financial restraints but in the broadest sense I have done it. I set out on a new year resolution last December and my goal was to successfully get into a better shape. So I am very aware that fitness is probably one of the most common goals ever but I actually did it.

Sure I am still a little round in the center but hell if I am not in a much better shape and still working towards being better. As always I am looking towards the future, even if I am taking a moment to look back and see how far I have come, and I am making plans. I am not going to lie and say it was easy and I am very fortunate to have people in my life who are willing to give me so much help.

This morning I took a step forward that got delayed in my master plan for fitness and self improvement. I had originally planned that next month a few friends and I were going to travel down to the state of Washington and take part in a 5k obstacle course known as the warrior dash ( read my post about it here: Warrior Dash). Due to forgetfulness and most of the people falling off the fitness wagon we didn’t end up going which makes me sad but there is always next year. I had planned to run a 5k and a 10k before that race and that never came to fruition ether.

Now I am pushing forward with my original plans and this morning I signed up for two races to complete in the next few months.

The first run I will be doing is a 5 kilometer charity run for breast cancer at the end of September called Run for a Cure. This is a run to raise funds for breast cancer research, even though I am paying the base fee and not looking for .Judging by how I am doing currently in my training I am confident that I will be able to complete it. I can say with conviction that I know I will not place first or even third but that is not the point I just want for one day to look back and say I did that.

Read more Here: Run For The Cure

The second run will be a little bit longer being an 8 Kilometer fun run for charity this time it is a different charity this run is called the Sight Night Fun Run. This run is for a different charity called the ASRAB, which stands for the Alberta Sports and Recreation for the Blind. This run will take place on Saturday the 17th of November which is actually three days after my 23rd birthday. This run will probably be fairly cold but being a snow boarder I should have no problem fighting off the bitter cold. There is actually a catch to this run the entire thing will take place after the sun has set behind the mountains and in the dark. This one promises to be a challenge for me and I plan to push through it with strength and determination.

I am very lucky that I am not doing this alone ether aside from my beautiful Wifey cheering me on I will have a partner at my side. My favorite ginger is helping me to achieve my goal by stepping me up and joining me on my fitness journey. It really helps me to know that I am not running my first or even second race on my own, it is moments like these that I realize how great my friends truly are.
I am super excited to take these steps forward in my life and I know that one day I will look back and say look at what I did. I may not be pledging but if you could make a donation to ether charity I know it will make you feel better to do your part.
