Wow from around the Net: Smart Monster

Never have I proclaimed myself to be a car guy, actually it is quite the opposite I know very little about cars. That doesn’t mean that I don’t know how to do any of the basics and I don’t think I will find myself stuck on the side of the road anytime soon panicking because I do not know what to do. It just means you probably will not find me hanging around a garage spouting off about what make and model are the best or how to fix an engine.

That all being said, not being a car guy, does not mean I cannot appreciate a beautiful vintage car.  I also have an appreciation for anyone willing and able to pour the necessary time and money needed to build and restore a beautiful one. On the same note I can really understand how hard and creative you have to be to take a ridiculous notion and make it into a fantastic reality.

A co-worker of mine discovered a talented gentleman who took a ridiculous idea and turned it into something so hilarious it is awesome. A Greek rally racer by the name of Stefan Attart is the man who birthed a wonderful creation, a mix of cute and seriously intimidating. Stefan brought forth into this world a Frankenstein type car in the form of a monster truck smart car.

Check it out:

Seeing this bad boy tearing up a mud hole would be a riot and this is the first time I have every really thought that the Smart Car could be seriously cool. The only thing that I am still curious about is if he kept the stock features of the smart car when he did the over haul, heated seats and mud driving would be a great combination.

Wow from around the Net: New Level of Horror

I suppose it is about time for me to share my good news from this last weekend, well here it goes… I bought a house! That is right me and my Wifey have started the process of purchasing our first home and if all goes according to plan then we should be moved in before Christmas. The sad part for me is that yes I should be in a home in time to deck the halls and put up a tree but I will not be in the house in time for Halloween.

No home in time for Halloween means that I will not be able to decorate my home with skeletons and cobwebs. One of my favorite parts about this holiday growing up was that it was all about spooks and creepy crawlies, not the candy like most kids. Perhaps this is part of the reason why I have always enjoyed watching a good (or even a bad) horror film.

Speaking of scary movies there is a new method for inducing waves of terror while you are in the theatre. Everyone thought that the best new technology to increase the state of fear was the new Real3D, but the best that does is make us a little more jumpy. Now imagine if you were sitting in the theater and suddenly your phone rings just as the main character of the film dialed a phone. An unknown phone number has dialed you, answering it you suddenly realize that your voice is on the screen, and actor is answering you.

As it stands this is really only in Germany but I am severely hoping that it makes its way across the sea to our native land. See when it comes to scary movies I become just like a stereotypical black woman and yell at the screen, “Bitch Don’t go down the stairs!”. I wonder if I could actually get the main character to survive or would I be the cause of her demise?

Wow from around the Net: Positive feelings

Have you ever have one of those days where you just wake up smiling and just feel all around good? Today I am having a day like that, sure I didn’t want to leave my warm bed but I Just have a strong feeling like nothing can go wrong today. Even if things don’t work out the way that I like I know that I will take it in stride or at least that is how I am feeling this lovely Friday morning.

This morning when I was getting ready to start the day I decided that it was going to be a tea day instead of a coffee day. It is strange how the universe works sometimes because shortly after that decision was made I found an image that pretty much expressed how I feel. Finding this picture actually made me smile a little more than I was before hand.

Last night while I was killing some time browsing the internet I found this video that I think expresses my feelings for today. Over the course of my life I have said many people say something about how if you put out positive energy you will get positive energy back. This video is a visual representation of the idea of what goes around comes around and is very well put together in my opinion.

When I look back on who I was a couple of years ago I realize that I was a young man who was filled with rage. I have learned in the last while that the more negative energy you put out in the world the more that comes back on you. Today is one of those days where I feel good about whom I am and I look forward to where I am going.

The future holds so much for me today and I will not let all the negativity get me down.

Wow from arond the Net: Pulp Fiction Hero

Most guys, especially geek guys, dream that one day they will be involved in a terrible situation where they have to rise to the occasion. As a part of this fantasy we tend to hope that while that incident is happening we will be able to deliver an epic badass monolog. After years of watching action movies where our heroes challenge the bad guys all while being aloof and witty we have it ingrained that hopefully we will be able to do that too one day.

For one movie geek who has spent too much time watching these action movies that dream finally came true. A man down in Arizona this month stopped a couple of thieves who were trying to rob a café that he was dinning in. How did he do it? He stopped them dead in their tracks when they tried to take his wallet by quoting the Tarantino classic Pulp Fiction

Paul Horner was standing there in the middle of a situation that was about to go south when he had a choice, bend over backwards or take a stand. He was contemplating what to do when he got a flash of inspiration from none other than his wallet, a replica pulp fiction wallet. It was in this moment that he began to quote the famous monolog done by Samuel L Jackson during the scene of similar circumstances.

I bet that Paul went home thanked whatever God he prays to, crossed that off of his Bucket list and then probably threw on the film itself, because in all reality that is what I would probably do. I wonder if Quinten Tarantino or Samuel L Jackson heard about this if they would call him and congratulate him on this accomplishment because that would be more than awesome.

This strange news story is the perfect example of how a geekdom can change your life for the better. If it had not been for this man’s love of film he would not have had a muse to motivate him into action and save the day. I am sure if interviewed this man would recommend the film because it was a life changing experience for him.

Check out the Movie: Pulp Fiction

And what scene am I talking about, well if you don’t mind spoiling the movie for yourself then check it out here.

Spoiler Alert:

Oh man now I really want to watch this film like no other.

Wow from around the Net: Pokemon Cross Stitch

If there is one thing skill that I sometimes wish I had the time and patience to pursue it would be cross stitching. If I could master this art with thread I would probably cover most of my clothes with intricate and wicked patterns. Alas my attention span and short fuse will not allow me to ever complete anything of a caliber such as this without first breaking a lot of things.

As with every kind of medium there is a Geek who has utilized it for a medium to express their personal geekiness. Cross Stitching is no exception to the geek invasion and for geeks who are lovers of the pixel art this is one of the easiest mediums to cross into. With most of the classic video games being passed around 8 or 16 bits this means that the images of our favorite characters are already perfect to be cross stitched.

Introducing Linda the girl who set out to be the very best, like no one ever was, to stich them all is her real test, to stitch them is her cause. Lind took all the sprites from the Pokémon game and put them to fabric, I am almost speechless in looking at this. A project of this magnitude takes an outstanding amount of commitment to pull off and bravo for her doing it.

Check out her blog here: Eponases

Here is a pick of the master crafter standing next to her masterpiece of geekdom.

I wish I could create something of that magnitude, maybe one day I will.
