Geekdom Crossover: Pokemon X and Y

My New Year’s resolution to restart my passion for blogging has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start. The real reason for my lack of blog posts that I am finding it hard to get in the right mindset for writing. Before I fall completely off of the blogging wagon I am making a post to try and increase my own moral on the subject.

This morning some big news came out in the video game community, the announcement of a new Pokémon game. Nintendo announced that coming out this year would be the next installment in the franchise with two games for the Nintendo 3DS. The games are titled Pokémon X and its counterpart will be Pokémon Y, the first time that they have stepped away from their standard colour based naming system.

These new games are also the launching point of the new Generation Six of the collectable creature characters. In addition to the new generation these games will also feature three new starters for the game, still in the classic Grass, Water and Fire types. As well as like all the games there are a new set of legendary Pokémon that will be the bases of the games plot.

The Starters are as follows

Fire – Fennekin

Water – Frokie

Grass – Chespin

This is going to be a hard choice of starters for me I normally tend towards picking the grass types but this time I like the look of the others more. My only hope is that this fire starter will not evolve to be another one of the overdone fire-fighting types. But the more I look at cute little Chespin the more I feel like I am going to pick Grass once again.

With the announced release of this game for the 3DS that gives me two reasons to go out and buy the handheld console. I have been a large fan of the Pokémon franchise since I got my blue version back in 1999 and I am looking forward to the next installment.

WTF!: Pokemon vs. PETA

In this world there are very few things that actually ruffle my feathers in such a way that I become beyond infuriated. One of these uncommon occurrences is actually a very large organization of hypocritical stupid people, PETA. I know that I have already posted once before about how maddening the vegan animal lovers are, but they are just so self-righteous it drives me nuts.

On Thursday of last week the long anticipated Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 were released here in North America. It has been five whole days and I still have yet to go out and obtain a copy of the newest installment in the franchise. The Pokemon franchise was a signifigant part of my childhood growing up from toys and TV to videogames and trading cards I had it all.

Those two topics may seem unrelated but trust me I have found something that has linked the idiots at PETA to the Japanese cartoon. With the release of the new Pokemon game the nut jobs over at PETA decided to launch an “Awareness” Campaign.

That link that I posted above is to a viral game that is put out by PETA about how all of the creatures in the Pokemon universe are abused. The simple minded activists are taking their limited knowledge about a game but are only scratching the surface level of what the game is truly about. The Pokefans are reacting in an up roar and if there is one thing people underestimate it is the power of geek rage.

PETA is a big bunch of fun wreckers who half of the organization have no idea what they are even fighting for or against. It almost seems to me that when people stop eating meat they become stupid and lose some of their reasoning skills. I think that I will be going out and getting the new Pokemon game this Friday not just because I was going to get it anyway but out of spite of this group of stupid individuals.

Wow from around the Net: Pokemon Cross Stitch

If there is one thing skill that I sometimes wish I had the time and patience to pursue it would be cross stitching. If I could master this art with thread I would probably cover most of my clothes with intricate and wicked patterns. Alas my attention span and short fuse will not allow me to ever complete anything of a caliber such as this without first breaking a lot of things.

As with every kind of medium there is a Geek who has utilized it for a medium to express their personal geekiness. Cross Stitching is no exception to the geek invasion and for geeks who are lovers of the pixel art this is one of the easiest mediums to cross into. With most of the classic video games being passed around 8 or 16 bits this means that the images of our favorite characters are already perfect to be cross stitched.

Introducing Linda the girl who set out to be the very best, like no one ever was, to stich them all is her real test, to stitch them is her cause. Lind took all the sprites from the Pokémon game and put them to fabric, I am almost speechless in looking at this. A project of this magnitude takes an outstanding amount of commitment to pull off and bravo for her doing it.

Check out her blog here: Eponases

Here is a pick of the master crafter standing next to her masterpiece of geekdom.

I wish I could create something of that magnitude, maybe one day I will.

Fom Around the Internet: Pokemon Lore

I found this video about the original pokemon lore of red and blue, it gave me a chuckle so I am passing it on for all to see.

What if Wednsday: if I were a cartoon character

So I have a phone app that gives me random what if questions, now I thought it would be fun to write about these and go into some serious thought. So for each what if I will pick my top five answers and try to explain my reasoning behind each answer.
This week the question was, if I could be any cartoon character who would I be?

1. Ash Ketchum from Pokemon

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Why him he is such a loser? You may find yourself asking and my answer for you is I could do it better. I know compared to ash every trainer ever even Joey with his top percentile ratatta looks like they are the champion of the Pokemon league. Ash doesn't know how lucky he is to live in a world full of adventure and where hard work and determination will yield powerful beasts that you can control. If Ash ever applied himself properly he could find himself crossing the globe on the back of a powerful dragonite or surfing the seas on a mighty blastoise or perhaps charging across the plains on the back of a tarus ( he has 30 of them what a freaking waste ).
Now I know it begs the question of what Pokemon would I use? Not sure right now but obviously I would have Pikachu because he was Ash's starter and therefore would be mine too

2. Donatello from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Ok so I know that most people hated Donnie when I was a kid but I thought he was awesome. See he was the only turtle who was a ninja and more, think about it he built all of the turtle tech that helped them out of garbage he found littered about the sewers.
He had a slew of useful technical skills, which is way more than any of his brothers could do. On top of his technical skills he was also filled with all the useful information that was always relevant to what ever trouble the turtles found themselves in. He was also the more docile of the brothers with a weapon that takes more skill to wield properly and is only used for submission not for the dealing of death.

3. Aang from Avatar the last Airbender

Bad ass body tattoos...check
Sweet flying bison...check
Crazy lemur companion...check
Power to control all the elements ummm yes please
Ok so being the last of your kind is depressing as well as being hunted by those who committed the genocide against your people is not really that much of a good thing. Let's look at that as being a slight cost to pay for unlimited power. What would I do with such power? The fun would never stop I am telling you

4. Nightcrawler from X-men

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Oh man Nightcrawler is so awesome I don't know where to begin on this one so let me start with the obvious. Teleportation, how often have you just wanted to poof away to some where far away from what you are currently having to deal with. How many times have you forgotten something at home and just wanted to teleport home and grab it.
Second reason is he has a wicked prehensile demon tail. When two hands are just not enough you got your ass covered literally with a third appendage.

5. Matt Ishida from Digimon

He was way better then Tai and had a much cooler Digimon, Gabumon, a reptile with a unicorn pelt who turned into a wolf then a werewolf and when provoked became a mecha wolf. Also in the show he was a way better leader then Tai because he thought of what consciences would become their actions instead of rushing into things all bull headed.

So tune in next week for what if I had to get stuck in an elevator with someone who would it be (real life people)?
