Geekdom Crossover: Pokemon X and Y

My New Year’s resolution to restart my passion for blogging has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start. The real reason for my lack of blog posts that I am finding it hard to get in the right mindset for writing. Before I fall completely off of the blogging wagon I am making a post to try and increase my own moral on the subject.

This morning some big news came out in the video game community, the announcement of a new Pokémon game. Nintendo announced that coming out this year would be the next installment in the franchise with two games for the Nintendo 3DS. The games are titled Pokémon X and its counterpart will be Pokémon Y, the first time that they have stepped away from their standard colour based naming system.

These new games are also the launching point of the new Generation Six of the collectable creature characters. In addition to the new generation these games will also feature three new starters for the game, still in the classic Grass, Water and Fire types. As well as like all the games there are a new set of legendary Pokémon that will be the bases of the games plot.

The Starters are as follows

Fire – Fennekin

Water – Frokie

Grass – Chespin

This is going to be a hard choice of starters for me I normally tend towards picking the grass types but this time I like the look of the others more. My only hope is that this fire starter will not evolve to be another one of the overdone fire-fighting types. But the more I look at cute little Chespin the more I feel like I am going to pick Grass once again.

With the announced release of this game for the 3DS that gives me two reasons to go out and buy the handheld console. I have been a large fan of the Pokémon franchise since I got my blue version back in 1999 and I am looking forward to the next installment.

Geekdom Crossover: Star Wars Princesses

I am sorry that I have not been posting as frequently as I had promised that I would this last little while. Life has become significantly more involved than it has been before with the purchase of a house and my job becoming busier I am not finding the time to write as much as I would like. Here is a quick post just to prove that even with all the new found stress I am still thinking about this blog and it has not been forgotten. Part of the problem lies in the fact that I have packed up two of my home computers and am now down to being only able to use my Wifey’s laptop.

For those who have spent the last few weeks living under a rock of some sort, the big thing in geek news is that Disney bought Lucas Films. This means that the famous Mickey Ears now encompass the sci-fi film master piece of Star Wars. With the new purchase Disney also announced plans for a new sequel trilogy that is set to take place after episode 6.

This new confirmation of the long talked about sequels brings mixed emotions in the geek community. For starters after the abomination that appeared in the first movies by the name of Jar Jar Binks, fans are worried that the franchise may decline further. Between Jar Jar and the annoying character from the new clone wars series by the name of Asoka, both of whom are characters created to make kids connect with the franchise, we can only hypothesize how Disney will do on this front.

On that front however the internet is abuzz with images combining the two universes of the colourful Disney characters with the more adult characters of Star Wars. One idea that most people have seemed to latch on to is that with this there is now a new Disney Princess. It seems that the strong willed and rebel leader, Princess Leia, has joined the ranks of Arial, Snow White, Belle and Cinderella.

The Princesses have received her into the fold quite well, or at least as according to this user made musical. It seems to me like the princesses are going to have their hands full making this strong female icon into a dainty princess.

There also seems to be tons of fan art about this new princess that is making its way out of the woodwork. Since the announcement it seems like the internet has exploded with fans who are showing how they like the idea of a new Disney princess.

Well that is all for now and I apologize for my absence as of lately, hopefully after I am moved in I will be able to post more. Also once I get settled into my new digs I will have the space needed to work on some of the projects that I have been holding off on.

YYC Adventures: Kensington and Piercings

It seems to be that every Monday I find myself talking about just how busy my weekends always tend to be. Not that there is anything overly wrong with that, it just means that come the start of my blog time there is so much that I wish to share. With life being as eventful as it is and me always trying to make the most of my spare time it just always ends up that my weekends are generally jam packed.

What exactly did I do with my time this weekend, well to put it into the simplest terms I played tour guide. There has been a co-worker of my Wifey that has been in town for a couple weeks and we thought it best to show her around town. We could have taken her to the local landmarks but she seemed more interested in more of the hole in the wall type places. With her best interests in mind we took her to the Kensington area where there is a lot of place that we thought she would like.

It would probably be best to explain that my Wifey’s friend is an easterner who comes to us from the greater Toronto area. She insisted on seeing what our city transit was like because she had heard so many of complain about it. Therefore we started our journey by taking the train through downtown and to the shopping district known as Kensington.

We started our tour being the geeks that we are by heading over to the comic book store Another Dimension. Sure there are lots of comic book shops and geek Meccas around the city but none have a bust collection quite like AD.

After the Geek store we headed down the road peeking our head in a few other stores including a record shop. It is the kind of store that hipsters and audiophiles jus adore for their large selection of both new and used albums.

After the record store and a couple of other stops we decided it was about time that we stop for lunch. This is a restraint that is a part of my food crusade so I will talk about that in a later post, probably sometime tomorrow. After we inhaled our lunch we found a candy store and decided to hit it up where we got a much needed sugar fix.

While in the candy store I was attacked by their zombie unicorn employee,

We spent the rest of the day showing our new found friend from across the country around our wonderful city. We browsed Chinook and helped her find a simple cow costume for a party she was going to later that day.  I hope that we showed her a good time cause I know for sure that I had a blast exploring my city.

On Sunday my friend Mr. White asked me if I would accompany him while he got a few new piercings. Naturally I said I would love to go and so the two of us had another day of toting around the city.  The both of us live in the south and don’t drive but the Tribal Expressions, the piercing parlor is in the north so it is quite a trek for us on public transit.

As I said I had yet another one of my very eventful weekends where a lot always seems to happen around me. Next weekend is yet another trek for me as Wifey and I head up to Edmonton for the Star Wars Identities exhibit and boy am I excited for that one too.

Wedding Aftermath: Photo Segment 6

Well I think that this is it, the final post about the wedding photos done by the photographer that we hired for our wedding. I know there were a lot of posts about just these photos but as of today they will finally all be posted up. There are still things about my wedding that I would like to share but this will be the final installment of the photos. Or at least the last of the photos until I can get any of the pictures that were taken by members of the family.

For those who are not keeping score I have covered the art of getting ready, the beautiful ceremony, the wonderful time at Heritage Park and all the fun we had while playing on the playground. That leaves one more event from the day of my wedding that has yet to be shared via this medium. The final installment of my wedding photos will be the reception dinner and the dance that followed it.

This episode will include the pictures of food porn, the compilation of stuff to form center pieces and the captured moments of awkward dancers. Pictures of the speakers as they performed their speeches that ranged in size from just a few jot notes scribbled on a cue card to ten pages all typed up to the note pad app on a iPad. These precious moments of Wifey and my special day captured forever to be looked back upon and laugh at.

Without further ado I present to you The Reception:

It seems like it happened so long ago since all of these events took place even though it was only just over a month ago that it all transpired. I will post more "Wedding Aftermath" to share where we found some of the awesome things we had at our wedding so we can give credit where credit is due.
