Geekdom Crossover: Star Wars Princesses

I am sorry that I have not been posting as frequently as I had promised that I would this last little while. Life has become significantly more involved than it has been before with the purchase of a house and my job becoming busier I am not finding the time to write as much as I would like. Here is a quick post just to prove that even with all the new found stress I am still thinking about this blog and it has not been forgotten. Part of the problem lies in the fact that I have packed up two of my home computers and am now down to being only able to use my Wifey’s laptop.

For those who have spent the last few weeks living under a rock of some sort, the big thing in geek news is that Disney bought Lucas Films. This means that the famous Mickey Ears now encompass the sci-fi film master piece of Star Wars. With the new purchase Disney also announced plans for a new sequel trilogy that is set to take place after episode 6.

This new confirmation of the long talked about sequels brings mixed emotions in the geek community. For starters after the abomination that appeared in the first movies by the name of Jar Jar Binks, fans are worried that the franchise may decline further. Between Jar Jar and the annoying character from the new clone wars series by the name of Asoka, both of whom are characters created to make kids connect with the franchise, we can only hypothesize how Disney will do on this front.

On that front however the internet is abuzz with images combining the two universes of the colourful Disney characters with the more adult characters of Star Wars. One idea that most people have seemed to latch on to is that with this there is now a new Disney Princess. It seems that the strong willed and rebel leader, Princess Leia, has joined the ranks of Arial, Snow White, Belle and Cinderella.

The Princesses have received her into the fold quite well, or at least as according to this user made musical. It seems to me like the princesses are going to have their hands full making this strong female icon into a dainty princess.

There also seems to be tons of fan art about this new princess that is making its way out of the woodwork. Since the announcement it seems like the internet has exploded with fans who are showing how they like the idea of a new Disney princess.

Well that is all for now and I apologize for my absence as of lately, hopefully after I am moved in I will be able to post more. Also once I get settled into my new digs I will have the space needed to work on some of the projects that I have been holding off on.

Geekdom Crossover: Hipster Princess

Being born with male genitalia it was often socially frowned upon when I was a growing up to watch, let alone like any, of the Disney princess films. Now with that being said I didn’t happen to watch a whole bunch of these classic cartoon features during my younger years. My mother however will tell you otherwise and say that as a toddler Cinderella was my favorite film, and like most children was the one that I would watch over and over, I however don’t remember this.

This massive gender separation on this topic does not stop me, now that I am older, to enjoy all of these widely popular films. Actually I have come to believe that my Wifey enjoys the fact that she can educate me on this missing part of my childhood film repertoire. With Wifey in my life that means that just as there is all sorts of Star Wars merchandise around our shared abode there are pieces of princess paraphernalia lining the shelves.

As with a great many things the obsession of these iconic cartoons has evolved into a very publicly widespread geekdom. With every type of geekdom things will eventually evolve into something bigger, humor is born and numerous inside jokes begin to form. This has even happened to these fictional characters that all the little girls idealized growing up.

And Thusly the Hipster Princess were born

Then the Hipster Princesses concept went beyond just the internet memes that were making their way around the internet. One talented artist took all of the princesses and drew them dressed in the many common hipster fashions.

Check out her DA account: viria13

The Idea of the Hipster Princesses also grew bigger with the help of a very creatively savvy geek. While surfing the web I found this viral video about a hipster princess musical that was so well done it is just impressive.

Sorry that I have not posted in a couple of days I promise that I have not forgotten about my blog. More to come this week I promise just a small bump in the road.

Tattoo the World: Princess Ukok

Tattooing had been around for millenniums almost as long as we have been able to communicate we have been marking our bodies. I am not against tattoos actually quite the opposite I love it and am always looking forward to my next sitting. One thing I do enjoy is the history of tattooing, I find it very interesting how all sorts of different cultures separated by miles would all perform similar rituals.

Recently a very interesting and cool piece of skin art history has come into the spotlight. About two decades ago mummified remains were found in Altai Mountains that were preserved in the permafrost so that some of the skin with ink remained intact. In case your geography is a little rusty the Altai Mountains are found where Russia, China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan meet, don’t worry I had to look that up.

The mummy, or princess Ukok as the scientists have named her, was found with many of her earthly possessions surrounding her so as to take them with her to the afterlife. Little Miss Ukok is believed to be a woman of some sort of importance in her culture and is thought to be a part of the ancient nomadic Pazyryk people. Her sick sleeves of ink were to show her power and accomplishments to her people who existed over 2,500 years ago.

She looks very attractive would you say? Don't judge her to hard I doubt any one would look as good after spending over two thousand years in a tomb underground. As you can see on her shoulder there her ink is still very much intact and well preserved on her leathery hide.

It is theorized that tattoos during this time period were used as a sort of passport system so as to identify who you are as you roam across territories. I almost would prefer this system if we were able to pick our own ink but in modern day terms it would be the same as us all having bar codes on our wrists.

It is uncertain as to whether the princess was a woman of high nobility or a holy woman or healer. To her extensive amount of skin art it is almost a given that within her tribe she was considered to be of high importance. This is what scientists and historians believe all of her tattoos would look like, it is a best guess.

She had a sick amount of ink and I am sure in her day she was a rad alternative chick who would be awesome to hang out with.

How to Survive a Zombie Apocolipse: Princesses

WARNING NOT FOR CHILDREN'S EYES!!

You have been warned officially so no complaining from here on out. That includes the eyes of adults who have grown up physically but are still kids at heart. There is a lot of artists from all over the web that take characters from all sorts of fiction and transform them into zombies. This includes the idols of little girls all over the globe, the Disney Princesses.

It is not as bad as it seems however it is merely a giant kick right in the childhood that could leave your inner child crying over its memories being destroyed. This is not like my other posts about the impending zombie apocalypse and steps to prepare to survive it. This was just some awesome digital art that exemplifies the horrors of what zombies could look like if they got a hold of our childhood icons.

There is an artist on the social media site for artist who has done some stunning zombie portraits of Mickey Mouse’s girls. As of right now the artist going by the online handle *clocktowerman has only posted four of the fictional princesses but they are fantastic. I am not going to lie I am actually looking forward to see how he thinks that the rest of the tiara toting ladies will look when infected with the dreaded zombie virus.

My favorites are Belle and Cinderella because it looks like they were survivors that lost the battle and turned.

Check them out Here:
