Wow from around the Net: Halloween Pranks

Let us start today with how I want to wish everyone a Happy Halloween and wish you all a happy Hump day, I guess this makes it a Happy Halloween Humping Day.  Usually Hump day signifies the low part of a week, so close to being over and yet the weekend still seems so far away.  However with the fun holiday of Halloween paired up with the super slow Hump day it makes for an interesting time.

Most people take the time on Hump day to post about funny things to make the week seem not as bad. Tonight being All Hallows Eve the night where all of the tricksters rule the night and harmless pranks are afoot. To start this day some of my co-workers decided to get in the mood early by “renovating” another co-workers cubicle.

On the topic of pulling pranks on friends it is now just over two weeks until I move into my new house. This subject actually relates because I think that me and one of my tenants may start a prank war. This is something I am actually excited about because it means that I will finally have someone good humored enough to deal with some pranks. This is all dependent upon if he is game to do such a thing or not, maybe I should ask him or not, this could go JackAss.

Also with Halloween and Pranking in mind I founds this hilarious account of a prank that this guy pulled. His description, and his facial expressions while talking, of what he did is so funny I almost pissed myself from laughing so hard.

Tonight I am celebrating by going to a Halloween party for me and I hope to share with all of you how that went tomorrow.

Wow from around the Net: New Level of Horror

I suppose it is about time for me to share my good news from this last weekend, well here it goes… I bought a house! That is right me and my Wifey have started the process of purchasing our first home and if all goes according to plan then we should be moved in before Christmas. The sad part for me is that yes I should be in a home in time to deck the halls and put up a tree but I will not be in the house in time for Halloween.

No home in time for Halloween means that I will not be able to decorate my home with skeletons and cobwebs. One of my favorite parts about this holiday growing up was that it was all about spooks and creepy crawlies, not the candy like most kids. Perhaps this is part of the reason why I have always enjoyed watching a good (or even a bad) horror film.

Speaking of scary movies there is a new method for inducing waves of terror while you are in the theatre. Everyone thought that the best new technology to increase the state of fear was the new Real3D, but the best that does is make us a little more jumpy. Now imagine if you were sitting in the theater and suddenly your phone rings just as the main character of the film dialed a phone. An unknown phone number has dialed you, answering it you suddenly realize that your voice is on the screen, and actor is answering you.

As it stands this is really only in Germany but I am severely hoping that it makes its way across the sea to our native land. See when it comes to scary movies I become just like a stereotypical black woman and yell at the screen, “Bitch Don’t go down the stairs!”. I wonder if I could actually get the main character to survive or would I be the cause of her demise?

YYC Adventures: Calgary Horror Con

Next week is the beginning of what I like to call the month of terror, or as those who are a bit more mundane like to call it October. This time of year means that the leaves on the trees are dying off and changing to brilliant hues of orange and yellow. This month also witnesses all the ghouls and goblins as they prepare for the coming of their favorite holiday All Hallows Eve better known as Halloween.

Well during the weekend that has just passed I went to witness some of the anticipation building up for this holiday. The gathering that I am talking about is called Horror-Con and is relatively new to the city of Calgary. This toddler of a convention is only a whopping two years old but already it has begun to grow support and in size.

Find out more about them here: Horror Con

The only reason that I found out about this wonderful event is because I was informed two days prior by a close friend of mine. At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to go at all but another friend agreed to go with me and then last minute my Wifey decided to join us. Boy am I ever glad that I did go but my one and only regret is not having brought a lot of cash with me.

At the event there were a significant amount of booths that were selling some really outstanding wares. Amongst the ranks of these vendors there was a booth operated by one of my friends and the reason I was intrigued enough to attend. The friend I am talking about is the lovely lady who so graciously made the cake toppers for my wedding.

Check out her wares here: Grave Digger Fashions
Or her DA account: CootieTourniquet

Besides my good friend Jace’s booth there was a great deal of other really amazing booths to see pedaling their wares. A great deal of very talented artists who have an affinity for the horror genre were all gathered together and resulted in a good time for all.

Take a Look

Even the Southern Alberta Lego User Group Calgary Chapter were at Horror-Con and representing the art of the genre through the use of lego.

The group that I was with even partook in one of the many stage shows that they were doing, I witnessed a very gothic singer performing his music.

One of the booths that was featured at the convention was a tattoo artist who was doing ink for those who wanted it, including my good friend Mr. Devo. Unfortunately I was not around to witness him doing this mostly because he did it on the second day of the con which I could not attend. I really wish that I had some cash to buy some of the stuff there and I know that Wifey feels the same. We did get ourselves some spookily adorable little cupcakes from one of the vendors and I collected a business card from the vendors that I did like.

This was really cool and now that I know of its existence I will watch for the Calgary Horror Convention next year.

Adventures in the YYC: The Terror Challenge

It is early in September right now and that means that my all time favorite holiday is right around the corner. Let the countdown begin now for it is only fifty five sleeps until the night where everyone reveals their inner devils. I am of course talking about All Hallows Eve, the one night every year where ghosts, ghouls and goblins rule.

I know that it is a bit early to start thinking about it but by golly am I ever excited, I was in Wall-Mart the other day and I noticed that they had already put the decorations out. I am a little disappointed that right now I live in an apartment and that means that I can’t go all out and decorate. The building I live in is locked and requires a key to get in so during halloween we don’t even get trick-or-treaters knocking on our door.

Why am I even talking about Halloween so early? The reason I am bringing it up is because of a Calgary based event that I just heard of. The event is called “Terror, the 48 hour horror film challenge” and they are open for registration now. The Terror Challenge is kind of the equivalent of an extreme obstacle course for independent film makers.

Basically For this event the competitors get a envelope and have two days to write, film, edit and submit a film. You can have a little bit of prep work before hand but not a whole lot because the envelope you get can have any number of random requirements to the film including but limited to Genre, prop, line of dialogue, character, film technique or style.

I won’t lie I wish that I could participate in something like this but I do not have any skills that would even allow me to accomplish this. The only skill that I have that would help at all is that I know a lot of people who I could get to help me if I needed to.

I think I will go to the showing of the films that seems like it would be a blast to watch all of those horror films. I wonder how I would go about getting tickets to this kind of event or maybe I should volunteer to help out I think that would guarantee me a seat.
