Wedding Aftermath: Tea Towel

Oh my, another post about my wedding and you thought I was done but I still have so many things to share. The day in question has indeed long since past and you would like to think that I would have run out of things to talk about by now but not quite. I am still waiting on photos to come in from the photographers and I am hoping to procure those soon. This weekend depending on how busy things get for me I am hoping to finally get my ass in gear and write my thank you cards.

Look at me go it is only Tuesday and I am already making plans for what I am going to do this weekend look at me go. Well any way I will get to writing those and my Wifey and I got a lot of fantastic gifts from our amazing friends and family. We got so many useful things and I am not trying to say that I pick favorites but there is one that I need to share with people.

One of my close friends who I often affectionately refer to as Kassandra the Barbarian has a serious problem. Her major problem is that she is an addict with a very uniquely modern addiction, she is addicted to www.etsy.com ! Obviously I poking fun at her and actually think it is hilarious just how in such a short time she went from not knowing the site to spending a lot of spare time scouring it.

Etsy is a wonderful place to get unique and creative handmade items and is wonderful if you want to give someone an only one of a kind gift. This is exactly what Kass used the site for to get me a wedding present. The site is also wonderful for obtaining pieces of geek culture especially if you are making a Steampunk costume.

The one of a kind gift that was given to me by my favorite barbarian is a tea towel that was personally embroidered. This is a very special piece that she gave us and I need to find somewhere very special to display it.

What I find I love the most about this tea towel is how adorable the little bride and groom robots are. If you want to find more awesome items from this user check her out the creators Etsy store EmbroideredbySue , she has so many cool things for sale here.

Wow from around the Net: Lazy Teenage Superheroes

I don’t know anyone who hasn’t at one point or another wished that they had some sort of super powers. The ultimate question is not what power you want but what would you do with said enhanced ability. If you really think about it do you think you would actually fully utilize the power for good or would you use it for selfish reasons?

This may sound a little jaded but honestly would you go out and start using your ability to save lives or would you maybe make your life easier. I can honestly say being a super powered career vigilante isn’t really a occupation that I want to have. Getting pummeled on by villains while the law enforcement is starting a man hunt for me is not what I call fun and to top it off all while worrying about the government taking me away in the middle of the night for experimentation.

What would I want if I had powers, probably to be left alone and would only use them to make my life easier. Most of the time in comics it is a socially wayward teenager that is the one who suddenly has these unbelievable abilities and has to deal with being bullied all while hiding their new found strengths. Time for another dose of honesty at that age if I had suddenly blossomed into a super powered man I would defiantly not be a hero.

Someone took the premise of having powers and not wanting to step up to take the responsibility of being a hero and made a short movie. What I love most about this little feature is that it is probably how it would actually go if a bunch of teens had abilities. The plot of this is not the most notable accomplishment of this film, the fact that this entire thing is done on a budget of 300 hundred dollars is the most impressive part.

The mastermind behind this youtube masterpiece defiantly needs to have more funding behind him. I could see this becoming a show it would be an American version of the English show Misfits, which I would defiantly watch.

Wedding Aftermath: Cake

I have been married for about 10 full days now and things could not be going more my way, life with Wifey is bliss. With the stress and craziness of the wedding being over it finally feels like our lives are returning to some state of normality. There is still so much however about the crazy milestone event that passed that I would like to talk about.

Right now I am not planning to be talking about it forever but there are still so many elements that I would like to share on my blog. Which speaking of my blog I am happy to announce finally has reached a milestone of Its own in gaining over 2000 page views Wahooo go me. This Blog is the medium in which I am using to express myself, to share my thoughts and to share the events of my life.

Well back to talking about the wedding, today I would like to share one of the coolest aspects of my geeky steampunk wedding. With a theme wedding that is so unique one of the benefits is that it allows for people to be very creative and thusly some very cool things come to be.

When I was enrolled in post secondary I was attending a trade school, where I made friends with the Baking and Pastry Arts students. This friendship was due to a very close friend of mine who was actually in the Baking class introducing me to them all. This friend, Felixx we will call her, stepped up to the plate when me and my Wifey were in talks about wedding plans. We asked Felixx if she would ever so graciously make one of the most important parts of any wedding, the Cake.

Upon seeing the cake my Wifey and I knew we had put our faith in not only the right person but someone who is very talented. She designed this masterpiece from top to bottom and it turned out way better than anything my wild imagination could come up with. One of the main reasons I knew that Felixx could pull this off and keep to the theme is because in all honesty she is the one that introduced my Wifey and I to the concept of steampunk.

Still on the topic of this wonderful cake creation, in the photos above do you see those little people standing atop the cake. Those beautiful cake toppers are hand sculpted figures of my Wifey and me in our costumes from our trip to this year’s comic expo. These were done by another friend of mine, Jace, a fantastic artist who also helped in the making of the cake.

And here are the toppers:

One more thing about the whole cake experience and I am done I swear. I called on one of my fantastic groomsmen for a favor. I asked if I could borrow a sword from his collection to cut the cake with. Like a true friend he came through and allowed me to use his cutlass to chop into this delightful baked good.

In the end it is times like these that I realize how great my friends are and how they will always come through when I need them. Felixx put in so much work into the cake and it looks fantastic, even the tiny details like the clock being set to 2:22 my lucky number. Jace put so many fine little features and the toppers turned out amazingly. I am so appreciative of everything that they did for my special day I don’t think I can ever thank them enough.

How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse: Zombie College

Looking for a way to burn some time to make the weekend come around faster, or maybe you are just looking for some way to amuse yourself for about an hour, well look no further. I have the solution to you weekday boredom in the form of an entertaining little internet cartoon series.

I have an affinity for things relating to anything to do with zombie fueled culture and this is no exception. I found this little internet gem because of a page a day calendar I have in my office that is about all things to do with zombies. I had to stifle a couple of giggles during the process of watching this web cartoon because I watched it all while working at my cubicle.

The animation style of this little show isn’t the best in the world but for a free animated short found on the internet it isn’t half bad. While watching this I realized that I recognized the voice of the lead doofus’s girlfriend but I couldn’t figure out from where, I like to play a game with myself of trying to place an actor or voice without looking it up. Finally I gave in and after a little bit of googling, wikiing and IMBDing I found out the voice actress is also the voice behind Bobby from King of the Hill.

One Miss Pamela Adlon lends her voice talents to this cartoon as well a extremely talented Mr. John Di Maggio, the voice of bender from Futurama. I thought it was cool that these the voices of prime time cartoons would help out with such a low budget cartoon.

Check out Episode 1 Here:

While writing this I was not sure at first whether to classify this blog post as a “How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse” post or a “Wow from around the Net”. I chose to put under the HSZA because as fun as it is, unfortunately the wow factor was not there. None the less this little show is worth a bit of a watch if only for a small amount of amusement.

Cooking Concoctions: Three Cheese Zucchini Stir Fry

As with the new format I developed I have decided that I would post my adventures in the kitchen on Thursdays instead of Fridays. The reason for this is actually two fold, the first reason being that cooking and posting on the same day is challenging. The second cause is because we are moving the cooking night from Friday to Saturday due to some new schedule conflicts that would take more time then I would like to explain. Also speaking of the new blog format this will be the last time that my cooking section will be called cooking concoctions.

One thing about the move that I think will be positive is for readership, I believe that most people who would better utilize my recipes before the weekend. Also the extra time in between cooking and actually completing the post give me the time to make sure that the writing is to a level that I am confident in.

The recipe I present to you today is a recipe that utilizes one of my favorite summer squashes, the vibrant green zucchini. This also a very healthy vegetarian dish that is relatively easy to make and can be made out of fresh produce from your local farmers market. By no means a vegetarian or vegan, I am a hundred percent omnivore and enjoy sinking my teeth into a slab of meat.

So this is my Three Cheese Zucchini Stir Fry

Let us begin with the ingredients

1 Zucchini Sliced
2 large Carrots Sliced
1 Large Red Pepper Chopped
½ A Red Onion Chopped
Tablespoon (or to taste) Parsley Chopped
½ cup of shredded mozzarella
½ cup shredded cheddar
¾ cup of parmesan cheese
1 cup of Orange Juice
2 tablespoons of Lemon Juice
To taste Lemon Pepper
Salt and pepper
Cooking Oil

Serves 2-3
Prep time 15 min
Cook time 10 min

So after all of the vegetables have been cut down to size, place a skillet on the element add the cooking oil and bring up to high temperature. Once that is done pour in the orange juice, lemon juice, lemon pepper, salt and pepper followed by adding in the red onion and zucchini. Using a spatula or other cooking implement continuously move the contents of the skillet around to avoid burning while cooking. Cook until the zucchini and onion begin browning then add the carrots, red pepper and parsley continue cooking until the carrots become soft.

Remove the skillet and contents from heat and turn off the element, and then proceed to add the mozzarella, cheddar and ½ cup parmesan. At this stage continue stirring until cheese is all melty this is how you know it will be delicious. Dish up and add the remaining parmesan to the top of the dish, you can add more if you want to but I find this to be plenty.

This recipe makes a delightfully light summer meal that is wonderfully filling and good for your health. My favorite part of this dish is just how colourful it is and if you want to flush it out a little bit more you can add other large coloured peppers, this also makes it way more colourful.

Don’t forget to vote for the new name of my cooking section there are only a couple days left to vote so don’t forget to get your say in. In case you are wondering it is located in the upper part of the right side tool bar.

Hope you enjoy!
