Wow from around the Net: Lazy Teenage Superheroes

I don’t know anyone who hasn’t at one point or another wished that they had some sort of super powers. The ultimate question is not what power you want but what would you do with said enhanced ability. If you really think about it do you think you would actually fully utilize the power for good or would you use it for selfish reasons?

This may sound a little jaded but honestly would you go out and start using your ability to save lives or would you maybe make your life easier. I can honestly say being a super powered career vigilante isn’t really a occupation that I want to have. Getting pummeled on by villains while the law enforcement is starting a man hunt for me is not what I call fun and to top it off all while worrying about the government taking me away in the middle of the night for experimentation.

What would I want if I had powers, probably to be left alone and would only use them to make my life easier. Most of the time in comics it is a socially wayward teenager that is the one who suddenly has these unbelievable abilities and has to deal with being bullied all while hiding their new found strengths. Time for another dose of honesty at that age if I had suddenly blossomed into a super powered man I would defiantly not be a hero.

Someone took the premise of having powers and not wanting to step up to take the responsibility of being a hero and made a short movie. What I love most about this little feature is that it is probably how it would actually go if a bunch of teens had abilities. The plot of this is not the most notable accomplishment of this film, the fact that this entire thing is done on a budget of 300 hundred dollars is the most impressive part.

The mastermind behind this youtube masterpiece defiantly needs to have more funding behind him. I could see this becoming a show it would be an American version of the English show Misfits, which I would defiantly watch.

What did I Just Watch?: Chronicle

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
With all these hero movies coming out it is hard sometimes to think about hero films that don't revolve around men in tights and perhaps all these super films are ruining us when it comes to darker takes on heros and villains. These past couple years where the geeks have finally come out of the woodwork for their chance to shine has shown a significant increase in the production of sci-fi and fantasy films. Yesterday I was in timmies with Kenneth the Third and he stops conversation mid stride to tell me that there is this amazing flick that I need to watch called Chronicle that he bought on a whim. We then promptly finish out coffees and swiftly rush to his place to pick it up.
Back in my own fortress of solitude we pop it into Heir Thurs my playstation and begin watching an abused boy who has started filming his life. I feel sorry for this lad being a victim of bulling as well, I cannot relate to the being abused by a parent luckily enough. Then the terrorized kid, his stoner cousin and the schools popular jock find a cave with some crazy glowing rock formation.

Then boom the three get crazy telepathic abilities and are able to do all sorts of crazy things. I won't spoil to much about this film and this is all things that you would find out about if you watched the trailer.
What I liked about this film is that every camera angle is explained, wether security footage or handy cam, all of has purpose. Also the camera angles become better as the main troubled teens abilities increase because he is able to move it around with his mind. This isn't the first film that has used this style, for example cloverfield, but this is the first time that I have found that it actually works very well and unlike the other films it is not just shot from one camera.
One other aspect of this film stands out to me, it is how real the characters feel. I found myself grow attached to these characters and as things escalated I was truly upset and felt unsettled by what happened to them. To me strong character development is what makes good films stand apart from a terrible film.
If I have not made it very apparent yet I tend to give away things unintentionally, but I am trying to be ominous right now. The thing about this flick that I liked the most was that the ending was left open but it still felt as tho you got closure about everything.
This film blew my mind a little bit and all I can say is if you ever get the chance to watch this flick do so.

What If Wednesdays: Super Powers

What if, what if, what if

To keep up with my organization plan to keep on blogging every week I set my days into what I am talking about. Today being a fabulous Wednesday that means it is time for What If Wednesdays. This week the app I use to come up with my "what ifs" has given me a question that I have discussed with my friends, and anyone who will lend me their ear.

Now for the question:

"IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY SUPERPOWER WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?"

Every comic book or film geek under the sun has at some point or another really thought about what power they would want if they could have any. This also comes at a perfect time because over the weekend I watched a show called Misfits. How did I spend my Easter that's right on the couch with Mr. Devo watching a British show about teen delinquents gaining super powers. I digress back to the subject at hand however.

1. Enhanced regenerative abilities

This is not just because (SPOILER ALERT) Nathan gains that ability at the end of season one. I have always wanted this ability ever since I started to read the X-men comics and learned of Wolverine's power behind the claws. I would use this power to jump from buildings and do all sorts of crazy stunts that should kill me, even if I felt the pain of such things I figure eventually my pain senses would dull themselves.

2. Elemental Powers
Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I don't really care what element, I do have a preference to wind or earth because I feel those would be the most fun. This desire came about after watching Avatar the Last Airbender, with all the different benders in that show it made me wish that by performing a martial art I can bend the elements to my whim.

3. Teleportation

I have said before and I will say it again Nightcrawler is the shit. I would really abuse the shit out of that power, I would become super lazy. Depending on the reaches of the ability I would travel the world like Hayden Christensen in jumper.

4. Muscular Memory Mimic

This one is a little weirder, in season two of heroes there is a girl who has the ability if she can see some one do something she can do it. I would watch so many parcour videos until I could just free run to work. YouTube would become my very own portfolio of things I am capable of.

This last one was a harder choice

5. Super Speed
Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

If I could run anywhere I wanted it would just be amazing. No need for a car when I can get anywhere faster by foot. I would be like Brian from Family guy when they got the powers "ask me how the queens doing." "how's the ..." "shes good"

I love super hero comics and movies so this one was easy. One day I plan on doing a blog on character Bios on the league of super douchebags, the super group of my friends
