How to survive a Zombie Apocalypse: the Holidays

Photobucket
So I know that I have been falling behind on my posts but I am trying to keep up as best I can, however life is super crazy as of lately so I am finding it challenging to keep on posting. I had a couple very interesting tips and topics that I thought about doing for today's segment but decided that I wanted to do a bit more research on all of them before posting them. My theory is the more you know the more informative you can be, and I guess I have to face the facts and be honest that I have been a bit unorganized as of lately and have fallen a bit behind on my day to day things.

So here is a fun Video in hopes of making it up, although I know that it is not the best I can do.

How to Survive A Zombie Apocalypse: Duct Tape

Photobucket
This little guy was made by my friend Jace check her out her stuff here: http://cootietourniquet.deviantart.com/

One item that no House, Car or Zombie Survivor should never be with out is a good old roll of Duct Tape. This handy dandy adhesive is one of the more useful simple things you can carry cause in a pinch it can be used to fix anything or fortify or even be used to make a light weight armor. So make sure that you carry a couple of rolls with you when ever you go out cause the amount of uses is endless
Photobucket
For example if you get injured (not bitten) you can use duct tape as a quick way to stop the bleeding until the proper medical attention can be administered. One of the best things you can do to make impromptu armor is wrap your jacket and pants in a layer of duct tape and instant light bite proof armor. One should always remember the silver rule (because duct tape is silver get it) is that if it moves and it shouldn't then use duct tape. By putting a couple of strips across a window it makes the tensile strength of the window stronger by a significant amount.
This is one of the cheapest and most essential pieces of equipment that an ultimate survivor should have on their person

How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse: Knots

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
One of my favorite movies that my father showed me when I was growing up is the film "the Boondock Saints" and one line from that film always stuck "you and your fucking rope". It makes me laugh and I say it all the time and my friends say it to me all the time. Truly however is rope is one of the most useful things and is not something to be laughed at, in times of trouble a good length of rope could save your life.
Any survivalist worth his or her weight will always take rope with them, and when the zombies attack your kit should include rope of some sort. Personally I recommend that just for basic principle everyone should learn how to tie knots, all kinds of knots. If you were not a scout or girl guide as a child fear knot ( yup I went there ) for there is an excellent website with which you can use to learn how.

Check it out here: http://www.animatedknots.com/indexiphone.php

In your emergency survival kit you should have a long length of rope. This to me is one of the primary staples for an emergency kit.

How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse: Maps

Photobucket Pictures, Images and PhotosThe Internet is such an amazing tool that can do so much we don't even realize it. This simple network has brought us into the age of the geek and makes it so that an un-fathomable amount of knowledge is merely a few key strokes away. The most wonderful thing about the Internet is that because it is created by the geeks there is a lot of useful things for the geeks, including prepper geeks such as my self.
What is a prepper geek? Well we are a unique group of geeks who believes that if a nuclear fall out doesn't claim the earth then a zombie uprising surely will. So this means we commit a significant amount of time to learning what to do in such a cataclysmic event. It means we have well laid out Initial plans, Aftermath Plans and numerous back up and contingency plans.
But for those who don't think about stuff like this have no fear for some of the prepper geeks have built an amazing tool for you. This was shown to me by a frien and i find it to be very informative. By cross referencing yellow pages and google maps they have put together a live map. This map outlines major infection zones as well as numerous businesses in which to loot supplies. If you don't have a plan or know of someone who doesn't check out this link here: http://www.mapofthedead.com/

And always remember to use your head and destroy theirs.

How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse: Blunt Weapons

Photobucket
Melee weapons come in two shapes Blunt and Edged and every survivor should carry at least one of each type. so lets start by getting to know the basics. The reason that melee weapons beat out fire arms is that a melee weapon doesn't need to be reloaded.First thing first there are three major rules when it comes to using melee weapons.

1. Train Yourself.
become proficient in your weapon of choice, weather you choose a machete or a katana, if you don't know how to use it properly then it is next to useless. so make a target, go out to your backyard and practice with your future survival tool.

2. Take Care of your tools.
If you don't make sure that your weapons are well maintained they will break down on you at an important moment. which could mean life or death this applies to anything that is necessary to your survival.

3. Always have a backup.
like the old saying goes two heads are better then one, so can be applied to your arsenal. granted that carting around extra weapons could become tiresome but in a pinch and extra can really save your life.

caution needs to be headed however when buying weapons like swords, make sure they are not just display or decorative swords. Remember that almost anything can be improvised as a blunt melee but if it is improvised then it wont last longer then one encounter. like a two by four is good for a while but you would be better off with some thing that is meant to deal a beating.

on to the subject at hand what to do when picking out a blunt weapon.

One of my top choices for a blunt weapon would be a sturdy piece of sporting equipment such as an aluminum baseball bat or a wooden cricket paddle. These types of equipment were designed to take quite a bit of abuse so they wont break to easy. With these types of gear try to avoid anything made out of composite materials they tend to weigh less but they have a much weaker breaking point.

Something that is multipurpose is usually what would do better in a situation where you are going to need to do a lot of things while carrying as little as possible. So my recommendation if you want to travel light then pull a half life and bust out the trusty old crowbar.
Photobucket

If you are strong enough and want to use a blunt weapon as your primary weapon you could probably do a lot of damage while wielding a fifteen pound sledge hammer. Cracking zombie skulls would be a breeze toting one of these things around with you. The only down side is that lugging that around could be very tiring after an extended period of time,

How to survive a zombie apocalypse: CDC

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
This morning while reading my google news something very interesting popped up under the category of zombies. Yes I have set one of my google gadget news settings to keep me updated about zombies a man can not be to prepared. I use this to find interesting articles about zombie things like games or walks, survival tips or tools and such other things, I one day hope to find one of my own posts on there.
I never thought I would find something like this however, an American government site offering tips on how to survive a zombie apocalypse. The CDC has released this very tongue in cheek style blog post about the basics of surviving such a catastrophe. It is smart for them to do this because let's face the facts those who are prepared for a zombie outbreak are prepared for all kinds of disasters.
For those who need to start their worst case survival kits this is a great tool for those who have not been preparing for the better part of their lives. So check this out to start learning or to brush up on some basics on what to do when the proverbial shit hits the proverbial fan.

How to survive a zombie apocalypse: guns

So during all the zombie movies I have watched with friends I find myself yelling at the screen a lot tell characters who cannot hear me just how stupid they really are for going into those stupid situations. So I sat down with my friend Mr. Devo and had a discussion about what you would need to survive a zombie apocalypse and how we would do it. So I decided to make this a weekly segment here on my blog where I ether find a useful survival item or fun tips for surviving.
Now to get to know me a little I don't think guns will help you in a zombie apocalypse setting. Why? Well there are multiple cons an very few pros to the use of guns. The pro if you are skilled with a gun or about to be over run the gun is quick and really useful. Otherwise the gun has two major cons stacked against it. First ammunition this will be in a very limited supply and if you plan on survival you are not always guaranteed that you will find ammo that is compatible with your weapon. Second problem with ammo is if you carry to much of it you will get weighed down. Now the Second con against guns is noise, if you have a nice hand cannon be aware that every shot you use to take down a limb dragger will draw at least six more to your location.
So let me sum this up for you guns are a bad call to use for surviving a zombie apocalypse. It is best to stick to melee style weapons weather they are actual weapons or just something grabbed to bludgeon in the sculls of corpses. I will explain my weapon of choice next week until then TTFN
