Tablespoon of Geek: Back to School - Chicken Strip Ichiban

For this post I will start by apologizing for not posting “A Tablespoon of Geek” last Thursday as I had promised. My life schedule was not reasonable enough to give me a chance to type up a recipe blog let alone get a chance to post it. Right now is my first good chance to get this post done and up and I am taking full advantage of the time.

Being that it is the month of September I thought it would be best to do a series of recipes relating to college food staples. Since this is the month of back to school season I thought it only appropriate to take those cheap foods and enhance them. Life is all about getting creative and turning mundane things into beautiful things and cheap food is no exception.

So far I have shown my methods for improving Kraft Dinner by turning it into a casserole and how to make Elvis’ favorite PB&B with a sweet twist. Next up on the cheap food list is the all time classic fall back for starving and broke students, Instant Noodles. Ichiban is a food staple found in dorm rooms across the globe due to it being quick and easy to prepare and today I am going to amp it up a bit.

This is my Chicken Strip Ichiban

You will need:

1 package of chicken flavored Ichiban
2 Chicken Strips
½ can of kernel corn drained
¼ cup of green onion chopped
½ a stalk of broccoli cut
Salt, Pepper and other spices to taste

Step one in this recipe is to heat the oven according to the instructions for the Chicken Strips and follow the instructions to make said chicken. Once the timer on the stove, for the chicken strips, is down to 7 minutes start boiling the water for the Ichiban follow those instructions to make. When you add the noodles to the boiling water also add the Green Onion, Broccoli and the Corn to cook them as well.

The instructions for the Ichiban call for the chicken powder to be added once the noodles are soft but I like to add it before that. When adding the stock powder this is the time to also add any extra spices that you have to give this meal some kick. By this time the chicken strips should be done cooking and removed from the oven, cut the chicken into bite size portions and add to the soup.

There are lots of other veggies that work with this simple dorm room recipe from snap peas to baby corn, whatever is cheapest. Hope you enjoy and I will be adding another edition of “Tablespoon of Geek” later this week.

Wedding Aftermath: Photo Segment 5

The week that has just past, was somewhat busy for me leading up to and including the weekend. I had planned to put up the majority of my wedding photos but due to life I was unable to achieve this small goal also I missed out on my weekly “tablespoon of Geek” segment. So here I am at the beginning of another week that promises to be just as busy and if possible it could be more eventful.

Now I always try my hardest to be a man of my word and during last week I made some promises that I intend to keep. The promise in particular that I am referring to in this post is uploading the next batch of my wedding photos. So far, if you have been keeping tabs I have uploaded the getting ready, the ceremony and the first half of the photos done during the break between ceremony and reception.

So we spent a majority of our time during the time between the two major events taking photos at Heritage Park. Unfortunately however we didn’t get to do all the photos we had hoped for at the Historical Village due to time restraints so we had to improvise a little. At first we tried to do the remaining shots in the field across the street from my In-Laws house but due to the lighting we didn’t stay there. Our next location after we mucked about on the side of the road was to head down to a playground half a block away from my childhood home.

We had a lot of fun being dressed all dapper and fancy playing on a play ground and climbing on big rocks. At this point my bride was a little tired and hungry which resulted in her becoming a little un-agreeable and grumpy. This time on the play structure gave me and my best man a chance to do some tricks with our canes.

The more wedding stuff I look at and blog about the more I realize there is to share with the world. Tomorrow it is my best intent to post the last of the wedding photos up, the photos from the reception dinner. I am also looking into getting photos from family and friends still but maybe those will surface when we send out the thank you cards.

Wedding Aftermath: Photo Segment 4

Here we go again, I am posting more of the wedding photos just as I promised that I would yesterday. So far I have put up for your viewing pleasure I have put up the photos of us getting ready and of the actual ceremony. Now I am going to share with you the next part of the sequence in the photos we did with the photography while in between the ceremony and the reception dinner.

Now there are a lot of awesome photos that we did in between and I decided to break it up into two sections. I then determined that it would be best to sort all of these photos according to the location where they were taken. The first group of the in between photos are going to be the ones that were taken inside Heritage Park.

Heritage Park is an amusement park located within the Calgary city limits and is overlooking the beautiful Glenmore reservoir. This location was chosen for photos not just because it is a unique and gorgeous setting but because it actually holds a lot of special memories for me and my Wifey. Before we started our long courtship we were best friends who spent hours on the phone, which should have been a big indicator for the future, and part of that friendship stemmed for our working together at Heritage Park. She operated the ticket booth in the amusement area and I was a ride operator, a carnie if you will, and so I saw a lot of my future wife.

I think all of the guys favorite part was when we got to play a little bit of pool and honestly those shots look awesome.

Heritage Park is one of the fun attractions I recommend for anyone who is visiting from out of town or even if you are a local looking for something to do. Only operating from late spring till September with normal events it is a fun time for people of any age. During the winter season they are hold special events for all the major holidays and their haunted Halloween is a lot of fun.

Check them out here: Heritage Park

If you go to Heritage Park I suggest that you should stop by their fully functioning bakery and pick up a fresh loaf of bread. It is always nice to make sandwiches with the freshest bread possible and their bread is freaking fantastic.

Tomorrow is a very busy day for me and I may not get the time to post up the next set of wedding photos. I know that I am suppose to be posting up a recipe for back to school but doing to certain events that might not be possible ether. I apologize in advance but life is unavoidable and this may mean I have more stories for you later in the week.
